Aaron Purmort, blogging, blogs, Minneapolis, Minnesota, obituaries
My friend Kara turned me on to this obituary that appeared recently in the Minneapolis StarTribune. Occasionally you see obits written by the subject, but not often enough in my opinion. And on a rare, rare occasion do you read an obit full of laugh-out-loud humor. When I got to Aaron’s survivors, I indeed laughed out loud!
I’m guessing this obituary is highly reflective of Aaron as a person. The newspaper also did a story on Aaron and his wife, who blogged about their experiences with Aaron’s illness.
What do you think of obituaries like this? Would you like to see more like it, or should the obit page reflect a certain formality?
Wow. Well, I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, it was his life, and if this is how he wanted to be remembered, who are any of us to say otherwise?
On the other, in our age of The Onion and the perpetual blurred line between reality and farce, it makes me a little sad. Are we really to the point where even at the end of our lives, everything is a joke?
Great post. Fascinating topic.
