One of the things I miss about working at the newspaper is covering major figures who rolled through Mankato. I will always remember covering Elie Wiesel’s visit in 2001. It’s not often a person of his stature visited our little town. Here’s my article. I did not save every article I wrote, very few actually, and oddly enough I found this one in my files only about three weeks ago.
I can’t remember if I got his autograph before or after his speech, but I remember he was kind and accommodating. I will always treasure this book.
I just saw news of his passing. What a great man born of necessity.
He’s done so much good for the world. May people always remember.
