Host Heather McElhatton and me. I so enjoyed the conversation. Photo by Pamela Klinger-Horn.
I had the honor of being part of the inaugural Bookmatch event, which was held Nov. 8 at Central Library in Minneapolis.
The event was billed as speed-dating for readers. As the audience arrived, they filled out short questionnaires designed to match them with their ideal book. Six authors had about 8 minutes to answer some questions and read short excerpts from our books. At the end of each Q&A/reading, an audience member was selected to receive a book.
I was honored to be in the company of exceptional writers. Fish out of water, can we say? Left to right: Ray Gonzalez and Julie Schumacher of the University of Minnesota, my colleague at MSU-Mankato, Geoff Herbach; and National Book Award winner Will Alexander. Yes, I said National Book Award winner. And then me. Neal Karlen was late and therefore, missing from the picture. Photo by Pamela Klinger-Horn.
What a great event! I love the idea of unique ways to bring writers and readers together. I hope the library, in conjunction with The Loft, continues to host Bookmatch events.
What is that look, Rachael? I probably thought I had said something so very clever. It was kind of creepy how well my skirt, jacket, hair, and background curtain matched. Photo by Diane Winegar.
