Whenever a new shoot on my cordyline plant emerges, a droplet of water appears on it. Six months ago this plant was nearly dead. I was determined to bring it back. You can do that with your life, too. Resurrect it when it hits bottom.

When my lovely mother in law died last year, my sister sent my husband a small magnolia tree to be planted in her honor. She grew up down south and always loved magnolia trees. We planted the little memorial gift in our back yard and it grew slowly and steadily until one sad day, it was harshly clipped down by a wayward lawn mower. We moved to a new home, shortly thereafter and I transported the maimed and clearly dead twig along with dreams of renewal. At present it sits forlorn on our back porch, still barren. Yet each day, I look out hopefully for a tiny bud – though it is not yet meant to be. I keep thinking if it blossoms once again, it will be a sign from my mother in law, Mary. Your post has renewed my faith. I plan to go out today, put in more rich soil and perhaps some magical fertilizer, pat it down with love and longing and hope once again.
Best of luck to you! I hope you see a magnolia bud someday soon. My plant was literally down to one leaf. I think plants can surprise you.
