🖤NEWS🖤 We are pleased to announce the relaunch of the #bloodmilkbookclub ! But first- some news on the last round’s randomly selected winners: @forestnoir & @procrastinator.terminator ! Please email us to begin the process 🖤 Both were randomly selected earlier this year; we apologize for dropping the ball on announcing, please forgive us! This round of the ‘read together’ aspect of the book club features a paring with interesting parallels. ‘We’ll Be The Last Ones To Let You Down’ is my writing mentor, Rachael Hanel’s memoir about growing up as the daughter of a grave digger out here in Minnesota. The book also explores loss and grief in the interesting frame of having witnessed the funerary business- as the back cover says ‘Rachael and her family are abruptly transformed from bystanders to participants’. Similarly, the much celebrated graphic memoir ‘Fun Home’ by Alison Bechdel explores a similar shift- the author’s family was also part of the funerary business and the book is very much about a loss, but also explores the author’s coming out story in tandem. Both books are teeming with emotional truths and have meant a lot to me as I write essays exploring the death of my own father & the personal transformation that I’ve undergone as a result. This ‘read together’ session runs today July 2nd, though Sept 3rd. If you’d like to participate, read these two books and post an image of a page that resonated with you to your feed. Please explain why – it doesn’t have to be more than a sentence but this enables other readers to find you and discuss if desired. Tag your post #bloodmilkbookclub to be visible. On Sept 2 one reader will be randomly selected to win a jewel of their choice from our regular line 🖤 Any questions please leave a comment below:

When my book first came out in 2013, I knew of a lot of book clubs (especially in the Mankato area) that read it. I visited many book clubs and I loved hearing what people took away from the book. (And a lot of books clubs have wine! That was an added bonus, lol!).

By now I figure that everyone who was going to read the book has already read it. But I talked to an acquaintance a couple of weeks ago and she said her book club just finished my book.

And now I’m honored that a writer/artist I first met when she was a student in a class I taught at The Loft has chosen my book — and paired it with Alison Bechdel’s Fun Home — for her online Bloodmilk Book Club. I’ve been working with Jess on a one-on-one level as a writing coach, and I just love the opportunity to read her lyric essays in progress and meet with her to talk about writing.

So if you haven’t read my book and want to join others in doing so, and read it alongside Fun Home, I’d be honored. Fun Home was my major inspiration as I was writing We’ll Be the Last Ones to Let You Down. Read them both and see if you can find some relation.

Plus Jess is an AMAZING artist who makes stunning, original jewelry.

The next stop on our Trunk Show tour is Seattle ! We’ve been honored to have been invited by @creaturahouse for a special evening July 7th from 7-10pm. We’ll have new jewels, unreleased jewels, one of a kind special gemstone jewels as well as a good selection of jewels from our current line🖤 We’ve been tinkering on a bunch of older designs in the studio this year and are finally able to add our beloved “Hecate” ring back to the shop. This reincarnation features a setting fully composed of life cast bat wing bones, paired with our usual line up of gemstone options: Onyx, Moonstone & Labradorite. We’ll also be reintroducing this design with a sliver ‘gemstone’ option as we had in the very early days, which is a slightly distressed ( to me, they look akin to how very mirrors age over time )cast gemstone shaped jewel. We hope to see you in Seattle ! 🖤#bloodmilktrunkshow #bloodmilk #heacate #hekate #onyx #psychicarmor #shadowwork
